Genesis Junior Centre is a community-based school located in the Soweto slum of Nairobi, Kenya, serving children and families facing significant challenges due to poverty and limited access to basic resources.
Many families struggle to afford school fees, uniforms, and even regular meals. When children come to school hungry, it can make it difficult to focus, participate, and fully engage in their education.
Why It Matters
Food insecurity and financial hardship can directly affect a child’s experience at school.
At Genesis Junior Centre, these challenges can lead to:
- Disrupted school attendance
- Difficulty concentrating and learning
- Less participation in class
- Greater instability in children’s daily lives
For these children, consistent support is not simply helpful, it can be essential.
How DDI Is Helping
Through its partnership with Genesis Junior Centre, Dorcas Destiny International provides consistent daily meals for 115 children.
With this support, students are better able to:
- Stay present and engaged in class
- Focus on their learning
- Build confidence
- Develop greater consistency in school
A reliable meal may seem like a simple thing, but for a child who depends on it, it can become the foundation for a better school day.
The Difference It Makes
When a child has a full plate, they have a better chance to focus on the lesson in front of them.
