In one of the schools supported by Dorcas Destiny International, there is a little boy whose story highlights the critical role of proper nutrition and care in a child’s development. At first, many believed he had a disability because he was smaller and weaker than other children his age. However, it soon became clear that this wasn’t the case.
The boy wasn’t born with a disability—instead, he had been severely malnourished as a baby. He didn’t receive the essential nutrients his growing body needed, leaving him underweight for his height and age. This lack of nutrition had a profound impact on his development, making him appear frail and slowing down his growth.
The boy’s situation worsened when his mother left him in the care of his sister and ran away. Despite having almost no resources, his sister has been doing everything she can to look after him. She loves her little brother deeply and is determined to give him the best care possible, but without the means to provide proper food and healthcare, there’s only so much she can do.
Thankfully, Dorcas Destiny International has stepped in to help. We are currently providing him with rehabilitation services to help him regain his strength and health. We’re also working closely with healthcare professionals to determine exactly what nutrients he is lacking. His tests are ongoing, and we are eagerly awaiting the lab reports so we can tailor his care and ensure he gets the enrichment he needs to grow and thrive.
This young boy’s journey is a reminder of how essential proper nutrition is for a child’s physical and mental development. With the right care and support, we believe he can overcome these early challenges and lead a healthy, happy life.
